 Solheim Cup Will Be BIG!!

The biggest event in Women’s Golf, the Solheim Cup will be held at the Inverness Club August 31-September 6. The teams will be comprised of the best women golfers from the United States and Europe.

Practice rounds will begin August 31 with the actual competition scheduled for Labor Day Weekend, September 4-6. Foursome matches will be contested both Saturday and Sunday mornings, with the competition switching to Fourball matches in the afternoon sessions. On Monday, the Labor Day Holiday, all the participants will be paired in 12 exciting singles matches that will determine the winner and bring the games to its conclusion.

This year’s festivities will feature one break from tradition, the opening ceremony will be held Friday, September 3rd, at Promenade Park. A concert, sponsored by ProMedica, featuring Grammy-Winning artist, Gwen Stefani is expected to draw large crowds to downtown Toledo.

Another first for the Solheim Cup will be the stadium feel for the opening tee shots.  At Inverness, the first and tenth tee boxes are separated by a small practice putting green. For the Solheim Cup both the first and tenth tees will be combined into a single teeing area. Fans will be able to view the players hitting their opening tee shots on No. 1, as well as, their drives as they make the turn for number 10.

A stairway and bridge will be constructed for the players to walk from the practice putting green, in front of the massive Inverness Clubhouse, up an over the stands, which will allow the players to descend into this energy charged arena.

In yet another first, the massive Meijer Pavilion will offer views of several holes and feature food, entertainment and even corn hole for fans.

Tournament Director Becky Newell talked with Back 9 Report about the excitement about to roll into Toledo. You can watch the video here.

Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship

The Scarlet Course at Ohio State University Golf Course will be hosting the Korn Ferry Tour’s Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship August 26-29. It is the second leg of the three Final Series tournaments that will decide who will earn one of the 25 PGA Tour cards for 2022.

Because of the pandemic no new PGA TOUR cards were issued in 2020, so the pressure is even greater this year for the cream of the Korn Ferry Tour to make it to the bright lights and big checks of the PGA TOUR.

The Scarlet Course always provides a stern test for the pros and is recognized as one of the best collegiate courses in the nation.

A fan favorite, Pub Thirteen and “Birdie Time is Miller Time” will return to the 13th hole. It be open all day during tournament rounds. Fans enjoy a sports bar atmosphere with drink specials for 13 minutes each time a player in the field makes a birdie on the par-3 13th hole with a shot clock counting down the minutes.

Since 2007, 15 of the top-25 players now on the PGA TOUR have competed in the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship. Before they became household names, Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Harris English, Xander Schauffele, Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Reed, Tony Finau and Bryson DeChambeau all competed on the Korn Ferry Tour at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship.

Come out to the Scarlet Course in Columbus, August 26-29 to see tomorrow’s stars today.
